Totara

Size: Totara can grow up to 30 metres tall, though some exceptionally tall trees exceed 35 metres. 

The trunk is stout and can have a diameter of over two metres.

Its distinctive reddish-grey or purplish-brown bark is thick, 

corky, and peels off in long, stringy, papery strips.

The stiff, sharp, needle-like leaves are a dull green and are arranged alternately on the stem. 

New growth appears a fresh green colour.
